I loved the story of Bacius and Philemon. It made me reflect more about myself. How a small act could become into a great one.
Bacius and Philemon reminded me of my grandparents. Both so loving and caring. They gave the essence of the grandparent who love their grandchildren and care for everyone around. They lived exactly fifty years together, until my grandmother died. When Philemon said " I'd hate to see my wife's grace, or have her to weep at mine". (pg.82) Unfortunately, my grandfather did have to see the grave. At least, Midas was able to get his daughter back.
The video I incorporated has the gods mentioned in the Metamorphoses. In the end of the video, we can see Phoebus in his chariot with his horses. There is also Zeus as he attacks the god of wine Bacchus with his lightening.

Finally, A Happily Ever After
As soon as the described Eros, I made the quick connection noticing it was cupid. How ever, it was funny to think of the god since supposedly it is a baby in diapers.
I liked how Q and A connected love with Eros description.
"Q: Why does he have wings?
A: So he can move quickly and easily from body to body.
Q: Why is he naked?
A: To make us transparent
Transparent in our love. Foolish to others. Exposed.
Q:Why is he blind?
Because in Love we are so ignorant and so compulsive? "(pg.68-69).
I agree with the quote since love makes us all stupid and foolish. Some may think that it is so pessimist, but love is not great. It may be that at the beginning everything is great and beautiful, that is because it makes us compulsive and ignorant, blind. As soon as reality is reached, it may be the hardest blow someone could ever face. In the end, someone always ends up hurt. And recuperating from that pain is really hard.
What I still cant get of the story was, that finally there was a happy ending! Usually, in most myths and love stories, someone ends up dead, almost dead, or they end up deprived of their so called " true love". It is weird that in the end, Psyche ends up being immortal and having their love will last forever.

It is weird that in the end, Psyche ends up being immortal and having their love will last forever.
Even so, their love had to be suffered, as usually love wants to. There was a happy ending, but obviously, both for them had to suffer. In the stories in which love was perfect, one of them ends up dying. There was a sad ending with suicide in the end. In the stories with happy ending, they had to suffer throughout the love. For example: Shrek, an ogre, wasn't meant to have a happy ending. But, he did! Obviously, there was a lot of suffering between Fiona and himself since he wasn't meant to love, specially princesses, and a princess would never fall in love of an ogre. In the end it worked, but did they suffer.
What it also is so funny is the Happy Ever After. How did they eve know there would be an after? It is such a big fallacy! How did they know they will last forever? There is always the divorce or death. You cant say they lived happily ever after if they are still alive? Or did they wanted them already dead? There is no eternal happiness!
It is so ironic that love has to deal with so much suffering. I think it is better to not even bothering in falling in love. The problem is, then you suffer because you are alone, and not being loved. Love is cruel!

First And Last Encounter With Dad
On the sky he sails
burning in despair.
I liked so much this story. The way in which Mary Zimmerman makes the whole play modern, is far more better than the extremely long poem which would describe a simple crash which burned the earth.
Phaeton described his story in a very fun way. For example, he tells his story to a therapist. There is also a school and the " Give me the keys to your car". (pg. 66). It is so modern and such act of a teenager. Even so, I still cant believe that the first thing he asks in his first and last encounter with his father is to give him the car keys. In such a special moment, shouldn't he ask him to at least visit more often? Specially when he says " Where have you been all my life, Dad? It's my turn. Hand it over! (pg.66) It was so fun and entertaining, specially since I could make a connection with the character. " So he hands over the reins , but he won't stop giving advice. You know, like " Don't fly too high, (pg.67). It reminded me of the very first time they lend us the car by ourselves. It was just like the same scene, since my mother was really worried and kept saying, " Don't drive too fast".
Fortunately, our story didn't end so catastrophic. "It was over before it began. it was chaos, okay? Out of control, as if no one was driving. You know, my knees were weak, I was blind from all the light. I set the earth on fire. And I fell. And it just destroyed me- you know, I was just completely and utterly destroyed. O-V-E-R. Over". (pg.67) I still think it was such a irresponsibility lending the car ( not mentioning that he destroyed the whole world) to the son he had just met. Phaeton is going to be in a lot of trouble.

An Undesired Love
Vertumnus is such a childish god. Instead of showing his real self, he would use costumes instead impersonating someone else. He may be shy, but it doesn't mean that as a soldier or a farmer, his shyness would go away that easily. If Pomona doesn't even pay him attention in the beginning, how does he think she would find interest in him as a a mortal? Even if she would pay attention to him, it would be to the soldier or the farmer, not Vertumnus himself.
Personally, I would prefer ten times more a god than a simple farmer who just says " Howdy". As Pomona, a god could be even better. He even uses his costume impersonating an old woman, and he makes it so obvious! He says " I know him as well as I know myself, and I warrant, I guarantee, that his eyes are for you alone. Consider that he´s young , attractive, healthy, and strong. "( pg. 51)
Movies have said that what women most hate of guys (rather than cheating on them) is by not being themselves. This is were the famous frase appears of " It is not the guy I first met".
As for Myrrha, I think it was cruel of Aphrodite to punish her for not loving someone. As movies say again, " How could someone be forced to love?". Poor girl since it was of her father! Even so, what I find grotesque of him us that with his wife gone, he decides to go with a younger woman meanwhile, without even knowing who she was! Then, trying to drown her? He should be the one embarrassed since he was cheating in his wife with their own daughter.

The First Ever Recorded Cannibalism
Even so, Ceres did have her way of vengeance. What other punishment harsher than that one? He destroyed himself. At least, the punishment worked for many. Now, the narrator was free of that selfish and arrogant king. Ersichthon´s mother was also freed from her old age (and her son). She even was taken back to the shores, were she, as a young child would play for hours and days. Finally, Ceres avenged her sacred tree death and made a favor to all human beings. At least all humans who had to do anything with the king.
There Was No ¨Happily Ever After¨
I felt so much pity for Alcyone specially when the fake Ceyx appears and tells her: ¨Get up from your bed and put on your mourning clothes¨(pg.30) No matter how much he would tell him to come back, he never did. ¨All the night she searched along the shore for her drowned, dreamed husband¨(pg.30).
This story reminded me to Titanic. When the ship already sank and both, Jack and Rose are together in a door that is floating nearby. As Jack always said that everything would be alright, and he would never let go. Eventually he died, leaving Rose alone. No matter how she called back at him and cried, there was nothing else to do. In both stories, the lovers didn't have a very happy ending.

The Creation
Through the narration of the creation, understanding was difficult. The narrator had a very freaky style of voice. There is some birds and some kind of music in the back, which gives the narrator a much more terrifying narration. Besides being freaky, it was also very annoying. After saying something in English, then he would start speaking in Latin. It was extremely boring since his Latin accent was not so fluent and all exaggerated.

A New Point of View
The Bhagavad-Gita gave me new thoughts. The book is very different from many others that I have read. it is not only in the way written form of stanza, but in the way that it relates to a whole new point of view. It comes from the teachings form a very different culture. Indian practices and ways of thinking is totally different to ours.
In a way, I liked some of the teachings which Lord Krishna would say to Arjuna, but were they hard to understand. It took me sometime to realize what was happening and re-read the teaching to understand what he was trying to say.
I liked when he started talking about the reincarnation because it is something that interests me a lot. How would a second life be? Do we have a life before this one? If there was, how would it be like? This questions have been circling through my mind long time ago.
What I found really weird was death. The way Krishna would tell Arjuna that it didn't matter if he killed them, they would die anyway. It totally contradicts our believes, even so, I cant imagine how would our world be like with that kind of feeling.

Lord Krishna´s Universe
Teachings 17 and 18
As Lord Krishna kept saying, there are some important aspects that make our universe. The mayor ones are Knowledge, action and agent. In this case, I made a picture representing each of them as Krishna described them.
Knowledge: Is the one that is different. It is much more than action and agent, but it may also be combined. Even how, knowledge´s characteristics make the person different form others. It separates it form the others into a different world. When everyone is the same, knowledge has its difference.
In my drawing, I tried to incorporate the passion for knowledge by adding hearts referring to Passion for books: knowledge. The person is separated form all the others since he is different. ( glasses, hair style).
Action:
Has many characterizations that are explained with other drawings. Action is an act of sanctity. it may be done throughout sacrifice, charity and penance.
Tranquility: is a very important action for a priest. It has both, characteristics of an action and knowledge. ¨ Tranquility, control, penance,/purity, patience and honesty, /knowledge, judgment, and piety/ are distinction to the action of a priest¨. ( Teaching 18, page. 141, 42)
The picture show a person in the state of being calm and tranquil. He is sitting down waiting with patience, and he shows a face of judgement and honesty. He is bald in order to show that he is a priest, and also the aura demonstrating his purity and control.

Heroism:
¨ Heroism fiery energy, resolve,/ skill, refusal to retreat in battle,/ charity, and majesty in conduct/ are instinct to the action of a warrior.
The drawing shows a fiery warrior, in this case Arjuna with his bow and arrow. He is skill full by the golden medals in his left hand, and his charity is shown in the box with gold at the left. His twisted and ad face demonstrates his fiery energy, showing a warrior with refusal of retreating in battle.

¨Know that through lucid knowledge/ one sees in all creatures/ a single, unchanging existence,/undivided within its divisions¨. ( Teaching 18, page. 138, 20)
¨Know passionate knowledge/ as that which regards/ various distinct existences/ separately in all creatures¨. ( Teaching 18, page. 138, 21)

Renunciation
Renunciation may be the hardest of all. It may also be characterized as detachment. By renunciation is by leaving everything behind. Not wanting or ever wanting to have and not caring. Instead of wanting more and having it all b yourself, it is better to detach form something and at least share with the one who do need.
The drawing shows the person is preparing to leave everything behind, like his whims and other´s people´s (by leaving the city). He is starting to prepare to take the first harsh steps of renunciation.

The Three Worlds and Something Else
Teachings 11-15
Lord Krishna says very interesting teachings. What I find so interesting is: ¨Knowledge means humility, sincerity, nonviolence, patience, honesty, reverence for one´s teacher, purity, stability, self restraint; ¨(pg.114). What I still don't get is how Lord Krishna tels Arjuna to be cool and kill them all. But supposedly, nonviolence is knowledge, so I am a little confused. Even so, I like the meaning of Knowledge which has very important values such as honesty.
¨Dispassion toward sense objects and absences of individuality, seeing the defects in birth, death, old age, sickness, and suffering; ¨(pg. 114) The individuality is very important since it was mentioned through the second teachings along with the actions and inactions. The absence of individuality is crucial for some since it brings all the bad ¨forces¨ such as defects in birth, sickness and death. In conclusion, dispassion is not good.
¨Detachment, uninvolvement with sons, wife, and home, constant equanimity in fulfillment and frustration; ¨(pg.114) In this cite family seems very unimportant. What I understand is that if uninvolvement means to be concerned and being involved with the family, then uninvolvement is to not care about them. Family relationships don't seem very friendly since they are about to start a war between them.
¨I bow to you I prostrate my body, I beg you to be gracious, Worshipful Lord- as a father to a son, a friend to a friend, a lover to a beloved, O God, bear with me.¨(pg. 106). The devotion is very important to Gods, but Lord Krishna does like devotion. Arjuna has to devote himself so much, but what I understand is that Lord Krishna is the blue guy with four arms.
¨The fruit of conduct is pure and untainted they say, but suffering is the fruit of passion, ignorance the fruit of dark inertia¨. (pg. 121). I still don't understand why so many religions and beliefs wants us to suffer. There is no real happiness, because if we are happy, then we know we have to suffer, in order to get more happiness.

The Pursuit for Eternal Peace
Teachings 3-5
¨He who really knows my divine birth and my action, escapes rebirth when he abandons the body-and he comes to me, Arjuna¨(pg. 52). I still find it very ironic in the way that rebirth is horrible. It may be that for man, life is short, but some such as Gilgamesh cant have everything he had. The goal in this teaching is not the pursuit for immortality, but for eternal peace. As the third teaching said ¨Goodmen eating the remnants of sacrifice are free of any guilt, but evil men who cook for themselves eat the food of sin¨. (pg. 44). The evil people suffer the rebirth, or at least in the rebirth, their lives must be as miserable as they treated in their other life. The Goodman will be rewarded in his second chance, but obviously they must still be good, or else they become the evil and miserable man.
¨Attraction and hatred are poised in the object of every sense experience; a man must not fall prey to these two brigands lurking on its path!¨(pg. 48) This cite form the book is seen everyday on our society. Our society is killing us. Hatred and jealousy devastates us all. We all want more and more, we are never happy with what we have. It is never enough. If you just had a fight, no one should be happy, special your rival. Our whims and desires make us hate and kill us between each other. It may not be the murder of a bod, but it could be the assassination of a spirit. We all want power and glory. We all want more.
Even so, Lord Krishna says ¨Even if you are the most evil of all sinners, you will cross over all evil on the raft of knowledge¨(pg.56) how can knowledge be a better purifier? Maybe because it is so hard to get that many people are not able to reach it. Its more like a luxury.
¨The man of eternal renunciation is one who neither hates nor desires; beyond dualities , he is easily freed form bondage¨. (pg. 59) It can sound so easy, but renunciation is so hard. Not desiring anything is almost impossible. How are we supposed to feel if we do not desire? All of our minds are corrupted by our little conscious that has been growing through years, Mother Culture. This teachings even remind me of Ishmael. Lord Krishna was Ishmael and Arjuna the pupil. The great difference is the religion. This is more about beliefs and the after life. Ishmael is more about our corrupted society.

Hail the Great
Teachings 7-9
As Lord Krishna started his lecture of knowledge and judgment. He said that nature his had eight aspects ¨ earth, water, fire, wind, space, mind, understanding and individuality¨. (pg.73) I think this kind of nature refers to us, human beings. it is usually how we should think. Obviously they mention earths´s elements, but also man´s, or at least as we think how a living creature may think. ¨This is my lower nature; know my higher nature too, the life force that sustains this universe¨(pg.73) ¨Know that nature´s qualities come form me-lucidity, passion and dark inertia; I am not in them, they are in me¨(pg.74)
I think that Lord Krishna instead of giving a lecture is more like praising himself. ¨I am the rite, the sacrifice, the libation for the dead, the healing herb, the sacred hymn, the clarified butter, the fire, the oblation. ¨(pg. 87) Most of his teachings are what he thinks is right. Sure, they follow his teachings because he is a powerful god ¨Arjuna, four types of virtuous men are devoted to me; the tormented man, the seeker of wisdom, the suppliant and the sage¨. (pg. 75). Lord Krishna is perfect, he has all reasons and he is the greatest one. Even how, aren't there supposed to be thousands of gods in India? ¨Keep me in your mind an devotion , sacrifice to me, bow to me, discipline yourself toward me and you will reach me!¨(pg. 90)
How come he is the one Arjuna must follow (skipping the fact he is his charioteer).
The big question is, what is the truth? What is the real meaning of everything?
With the infinite soul, it reminded me of Buddhism. The reincarnation that was infinite. Very few people could have eternal peace in paradise but it was really hard. ¨Arjuna, I shall tell you precisely the time when men of discipline who have died suffer rebirth or escape it¨.( pg. 82) I highlight suffer because it is really ironic. First, we all think life of men is short. Rebirth sounds like a second chance for everyone, why suffer? What I like about this believe is that in India, people shall be good so in their next life or second chance, they can have a much more better one. A poor person lives happily with no regrets towards the rich people because the hate will not help for their second life. If they want to live like the rich person, they should be very good people in order to achieve it. They also don't have any dreams or aspirations. If they were born to serve the table, their whole life will be towards it. If people could think in this way, there wouldn't be much hatred or even violence. Just people trying to be good in order to achieve what they longed for.
I related this video with the reading because as soon as I started reading the teachings, it suddenly came up to my head Homer Simpson in India. The first video relates to some of the gods of India in how is their system of believe.
The second video is about Homer Simpson, as an Indian God because he thought he was a God because Mr.Burns gave him the power for a moment while he would go and swim with his ¨friends¨in the Ganges.
Finally, the third video reminded me of India. The Simpson's make it so real and hilarious.
